Recipes: Home Style White Yeast Bread

I made homemade bread this morning (pictured above) and it is so delicious!  I love the fact that it’s not full of preservative junk too and I control the ingredients. The recipe is a Grand Champion winner at the Sandwich Fair in Illinois (a really fun fair that our family goes to every year).  Recipe credits from the Exhibitors’ Favorite Recipes Cook-book, G. This recipe makes 2 loaves.

  • 1 package dry yeast dissolved with
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1  1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 cup sugar (I cut back on the sugar a little)
  • 1/3 cup butter – melted
  • 1  1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 7-8 cups bread flour

9 x 5 x 3 pan – 2 loavees

Dissolve yeast in warm water.  Add sugar, butter, salt, eggs and 4 cups flour. Beat till smooth.  Add yeast.  Stir in remaining flour.  Knead (I used my kitchen aid mixer with the kneading paddle).  Place in greased bowl.  Cover.  Let rise till double.  Divide in half.  Shape into 2 loaves.  Place in greased pans.  Cover.  Let rise till double.  Bake 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.  Cool 15 minutes.  Butter tops if you wish.  Enjoy!
